Iowa ASCE Transportation Conference Print

The ASCE Structural Conference will take place on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Scheman Building on the Iowa State University Campus. If you are involved in the planning, design, construction, or operation of transportation facilities, you should plan to attend this conference. The conference is designed to be of interest to engineers and technicians, public and private, who work in the transportation area.

Conference Objectives:

·         Learn more about future funding for transportation projects in Iowa from the director of the Iowa Department of Transportation, Nancy Richardson.

·         Learn more about the impact of increasing fuel prices on transit ridership incentives to increase transit ridership, and the funding challenges of a regional transit system, and Rapid Transit planning in Des Moines.

·         Improve your understanding of the benefits of safety corridors.

·         Learn more about GPS design tools and resources to improve project planning.

·         Receive a first-hand report on several “Complete Street” projects – planning protocols and project implementation.

·         Receive a report on two recent aviation facility upgrade projects.

·         Receive an update on the project scope and status of the on-going Mississippi River Lock and Dam upgrade project.

·         Improve your knowledge of pavement design with presentations on a new pavement design guide and a case-study on a dowel-bat retrofit project.

·         Improve your understanding of the public involvement process from several case study projects.

·         Improve your knowledge of intersection geometrics through several presentations on alternative design protocols.

·         Improve your knowledge of planning and design for ADA compliant roadways.
