Iowa ASCE Structural Engineering Conference Print

The ASCE Structural Conference will take place on Monday, November 10, 2008 at the Scheman Building on the Iowa State University Campus. If you are involved in the planning, design, or construction of buildings, bridges, or other transportation structures, you should plan to attend this conference. The conference is designed to be of interest to engineers and technicians, public and private, who work in the structural engineering design and construction area.

Conference Objectives:

  • Learn more about the FHWA/SHTRC evaluation and assessment of the structural collapse of the I-35W Bridge over the Mississippi River.
  • Learn more about the recently completed I-35W bridge replacement over the Mississippi River and the design build process for the project.
  • Learn more about the engineering design and construction challenges with the restoration of the Iowa Capital Building.
  • Improve your understanding of the procedures and structural issues with the repair of deteriorated concrete structures.
  • Receive an update on the latest code revisions for structural concrete and masonry systems.
  • Learn more about how to design with aluminum, including an explanation of aluminum alloys and tempers and the basic of using the Aluminum Design Manual.
  • Update your knowledge on the design protocols and materials available for using light gauge steel.
  • Learn more about the emerging issues with specialty certification and licensing for structural engineers.
  • Learn more about the unique history and design of one of several "signature" bridges in the U.S. - the Brooklyn Bridge, celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
