. Following are some of the criteria for each award;
1. Associate Member of the Year – This recognition is awarded annually to a member of the Iowa Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers who is less than 35 years of age on June 1 of the year of the award and who is an Associate Member for at least three years, and who is judged to have attained significant professional achievement, by the degree to which the candidate has shown: a. Service to the advancement of the profession. b. Evidence of technical competence, high character and integrity. c. Leadership in the development of younger member attitudes towards the profession. d. Contributions to public service outside of his/her professional career. e. Other evidence of merit which, in the judgment of the Awards Committee, shall have advance the Society’s objectives. 2. Government Civil Engineer of the Year – This recognition may be awarded annually to an engineer of recognized standing, sho must be a registered member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a citizen of the United States who is judged on the following: a. Sustained outstanding civil engineering performance in the public sector. b. Evidence of high character and professional integrity. c. Civic and humanitarian activities. (Community Service) d. Minimum of 15 years of public service as a civil engineer. e. Five of the 15 years must be at the senior administrative level. 3. Civil Engineer of the Year – This recognition is awarded annually to a Member or Fellow (except for an Honorary Member) of the American Society of Civil Engineers who is judged to have contributed substantially to the status of the engineering profession by: a. Exemplary professional conduct in a specific outstanding instance. b. An established reputation for professional service. c. Objective and lasting achievement in improving employment conditions under which civil engineers serve in public and private practice. d. Significant contribution toward improvement of employment conditions among civil engineers. e. Significant contribution toward improving the professional aspects of civil engineering education. f. Professional guidance of qualified young people who would seek civil engineering as a career; and professional development of young civil engineers in the formative states of their careers. g. Other evidence of merit which, in the judgment of the Awards Committee, shall have advanced the Society’s objectives. h. Nominee shall be a member of the Iowa Section of ASCE for a minimum of five years. 4. Outstanding Civil Engineering Project Achievement – The award is made annually for any engineering project that falls into the general category of civil engineering. Only projects designed and constructed within the confine so the State of Iowa are eligible. Basis for the award is “an engineering project that demonstrates the greatest engineering skills, and represented the greatest contribution to civil engineering progress and mankind.” In making the selection, the criteria are a. Contribution to the well-being of people and communities. b. Resourcefulness in planning and in solution of design problems. c. Pioneering in the use of materials and methods. d. Innovations in construction. e. Consideration of impact on environment. f. Unusual aspects and aesthetic values. |
